"What are the differty types of MS?" with Dr. Anna Bite will be the topic of the April 2 support group meeting.

With the goal of offering those living with Multiple Sclerosis and their families, caregivers and partners, a place to share experiences and learn from others, Mercy Health is proud to host a monthly MS Support Group. The group is led by Mercy Health neurologist Dr. Anna Bite, the region’s only fellowship-trained physician in Multiple Sclerosis.

The group meets the first Tuesday of the month at 5:30 p.m. at Way Public Library in the Mercy Health Family Activity Center.

All are welcome – registration appreciated but not required:

“A MS diagnosis is life changing, but it isn’t a journey that must be traveled alone. This support group offers a place to learn, and we hope it will serve as another form of healing,” Dr. Bite said. “The group is a place where participants are welcome to share their unique stories in a supportive and uplifting environment.”

Multiple sclerosis, also known as MS, is a neurological condition that affects the central nervous system (brain, spinal cord). Multiple sclerosis occurs when the body’s immune system attacks and damages myelin. Myelin is a protective sheath that surrounds the body’s nerve fibers. As the disease progresses, the nerves may also deteriorate.

There are approximately 400,000 cases of MS in the United States. More women develop the condition than men and frequently are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 40.

New to Mercy Health, Dr. Bite completed a fellowship in Multiple Sclerosis and Neuroimmunology at Ohio Health. She is a Partner in MS care through the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. She is passionate about providing care, education and support to patients and their families.

Those attending the program are invited to discuss issues they confront daily as well as offer the opportunity to ask questions or share concerns. Additionally, the support program offers an environment where participants can learn valuable information and share experiences.
