The Puzzle of the First Supermassive Black Holes In-Person
Observations indicate that supermassive black holes with masses a billion times greater than the sun existed shortly after the Big Bang. How these black holes formed so early is an open question. Dr. Eli Visbal, Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Toledo, will describe our current understanding of supermassive black holes, why their early formation presents a puzzle, and several possible solutions. He will also discuss how the recently launched James Webb Space Telescope will be used to help solve this mystery.
